What do you say when it's time to go?
When lights have been dimmed, and food put away,
and only the closest remain?
The intimate few who've stayed past the ruckus
outlasting the others who came.
The tables are cleaned,
all's put away,
and those that stay linger,
knowing what to say,
But what about you, when it's your time to go?
For you can't miss when you're gone.

In the stretching moments you have
before time,
how do you bid
farewell to your kind,
For you can't miss when you're gone.

Do you simply give thanks
as they bid you goodbye?
And soak up the moment and tears in their eyes?
Or should you respond
Through only embrace,
letting the closeness fill the place
of words to affirm your bond?

As belongings are gathered,
and coats wrap around,
those closest to you in the world,
How do you tell them
that you feel the same,
when you cannot miss when you're gone?
